Appreciation from Scholarship Award Winners

"Good evening!

My name is Jassica Chouhan, and I am one of the students that was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship from Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre in 2015. It contributed towards my first year tuition for my BBA undergraduate degree at the Schulich School of Business. I am in my third year of undergrad, currently. The scholarship I received was a huge help to my family and I. It made a substantial difference.

I think that it is a great initiative that SMCC has taken to support the community. Not only does the scholarship help financially, the applications and interviews serve as great experience to sharpen up skills that are essential when applying to other organizations, jobs, or scholarships. Overall, my experience with SMCC has been great and I loved volunteering at the camp as well. It was a very rewarding experience.

Thank you,
Jassica Chouhan"

Dear Haresh,

I am very grateful to SMCC for the scholarship! I come from a low socioeconomic status immigrant family so every bit makes a significant difference. It means having to spend less time at work and having more time to study. I finished my last credit this summer and will be graduating in November. I am currently searching for a job and plan to apply to graduate school this winter for next fall.

Kindly let me know if I can provide any more information or help.

Many thanks,

Thank you,
Jassica Chouhan"

Good Afternoon Mr. Metha,

I appreciate you reaching out to me. I am currently at Brock University for my Bachelor's of Business Administration and am planning to concentrate in Operations Management and IT.

School has been a wonderful experience so far and I'm truly enjoying what I'm doing. The scholarship I received in 2015 has not only helped me financially but also with my sense of self-worth.

My family's financial situation was a little tough at that time, the company my father works at was in the process of shutting down their operations plant in Canada and we did not know if my dad would be able to retain his job. Having 3 kids in the family, close in age, meant that we would be looking at 3 tuitions shortly and that was something that we could not realistically afford. That's why I decided that I wanted to take responsibility to pay for my own tuition. I had osap and worked a little but not enough to to fully cover tuition. This scholarship gave me just enough to pay off the tuition as well as cover the cost for textbooks.

Being awarded this scholarship also showed me that I could amount to something and that there was a reason I was picked, because your organization believed I was worthy and deserved it. It made me realize that sometimes I can be harsh on myself. It definitely gave me a confidence I've never had.

So to answer your question simply, yes, this scholarship has definitely had an impact on my life for the positive. It has also introduced me to your Mandir and all it offers, like the summer camp that I truly enjoyed volunteering for. I will definitely be visiting when I have the chance.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Anushia Kohuladas
